I'm not sure what I did to screw myself -- but somehow during my attempts to mount my Tivo's hard drive, I managed to screw up my ability to boot my Linux partition.
Symptoms: when the system boots -- it just sits there - blank -- none of the boot loaders come up.
If I use a linux boot disk, it boots normally.
I've tried putting back in my RH8 CD and using the upgrade wizard to make changes to my boot configuration, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Short of wiping my drives clean and re-installing (noooooooo!!!!!), is there anything I can do?
A Tivo is a PVR device (i.e. a digital VCR). Without getting too much into it, it happens to run Linux. If you want to "hack" your Tivo, you typically pull the HD out, put it in your machine, and boot of a special linux boot CD to install some software on it.
Somehow in my process of taking care of my Tivo, I messed up my Linux setup.
Two hard drives:
Primary Master - Linux
Primary Slave - Windows 2000 (although I'm happy just to wipe it right now)
Boot into your linux box with your boot disk, go to a console as root, and then go to the grub directory (/boot/grub, I don't why, but I always do this from this dir ) then issue the command #grub-install mbr. This should install back grub in the Master Boot Record of the computer. Try to do this, *before* putting back your Tivo drive, just make sure you can boot normally. Then re-do your steps if you really wanna tweak it.
