kde

hello once again everyone.
I need help once again!

I've installed cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com) which is a unix environment in windows.

I've tried and tried to get KDE 2 for cygwin running on it, it loads upto the point where something about inter process failed and to check the dcopserver if it's running or not.
This is the error message I get

DCOPClient::attachinternal. Attach failed Could not open network socket
DCOPServer self-test failed

I read the FAQ's and it said to change the registry value from 32 to 10 for cygwin flags, all done. Yet it still doesn't run. I'm all out of ideas, please someone help me!

Thanks in advance.

i have never used cygwin, but maybe you have some program loaded in memory that is causing a conflict. Try Ctrl+Alt+del and close all uneeded progs from memory and try to load cygwin afterwards.
just a guess though

Solution!

Hey all, I'm back with a headache, as I've furiously searched and tested cygwin.

Well it seems as though cygwin doesn't like things installed quite after it is installed or perhaps I did something wrong, oh well!

But anyways I deleted everything cygwin frmo the registry file, re-installed cygwin from scratch, started it up once and then installed the updates for kde-cygwin and launched it and hey presto it's magic!

Although blackbox doesn't work, all it says it could not connect to X server, although I started X before I tried to start up blackbox.

Any ideas anyone?

the only thing that really works on cygwin yet is "startx (without windowmaker) mc (and i like the combo of it hating my keyboard when i use my mouse) and most of the text utilities. however i still have the same problem with gcc that i have in linux...so if i can fix one i can fix the other
