iTunes Music Doesn't Like Me Anymore

Hey all. I'm currently working on migrating my music from winblows to Slack, and I've hit a roadblock. I have a few albums of stuff I downloaded form the iTunes store, in the protected .m4p format. I can access the files, but I can't play them using xine or Noatun, which I suspected. Is there any way to

a) play the files as they are? or

b) reformat them?

Hopefully someone has had this issue before. Thanks!

itunes sucks

this is very possible and a great idea...but you should not buy things from the burgeoning evil empire...a linux rip-off.

at any rate, i found something that might work...try this website...

http://duggmirror.com/software/Convert_Everything/

since this is such an interesting question, I will spend a little more time looking...

Unfortunately that site didn't work out. It has no option for converting m4p protected files, and using the m4a option didn't work. I have to say that I agree, buying stuff from the "burgeoning evil empire" wasn't a great choice, hence why I only have a few albums worth of these files.

The easiest way to work around the situation is to burn the albums to a CD using iTunes, and then re-ripping it in Linux.

Well, it appears I'm going to have to do this from windows (ugh...). Although after thinking about it it makes sense that all the tools written to accomplish this are made in the same OS as what the creator program runs in...

If anyone else is interested in this topic, check out this blog for a good run through.
