I've been scared of installing winex...and my fears have risen...

I took a wild crack at it a fair while ago when it was the very first time i ever touched linux, and it was extremely nasty towards me, and since then i've been scared of it. But i've finally gotten around to installing it, well, _trying_ to install it

I'm following this guide: http://www.linuxfusion.net/installwine.htm
what ive done is this:
$ cvs -dserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforce.net:/cvsroot/winex login
(You will be asked for a password, just hit enter on it)
$ cvs -z3 -dserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex co wine

then:
$ cd wine
$ ./configure
$ su

then this:
# ./tools/wineinstall

it compiles etc for a fair while, but then im presented with this error:

Code:
/usr/include/jconfig.h:12: warning: `HAVE_STDLIB_H' redefined
../../include/config.h:397: warning: this is the location of the previous definition
gcc -c -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include  -g -O2 -Wall -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -fPIC -D__WINE__  -D_REENTRANT  -o parsedt.o parsedt.c
gcc -c -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include  -g -O2 -Wall -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -fPIC -D__WINE__  -D_REENTRANT  -o proxy.o proxy.c
proxy.c: In function `OA_BuildProxyVtbl':
proxy.c:1130: warning: assignment from incompatible pointer type
proxy.c:1131: warning: assignment from incompatible pointer type
proxy.c:1132: warning: assignment from incompatible pointer type
cc1: /tmp/ccURtd9d.s: I/O error
make[2]: *** [proxy.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/wine/dlls/oleaut32'
make[1]: *** [oleaut32/liboleaut32.so] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/wine/dlls'
make: *** [dlls] Error 2

now i know why i was so scared of it

For me it looks there was an error writing to file (or reading from file). Are you sure you have enough space on /tmp ?

hmmm, i can't seem to remember the command to check space on partitions...or even space left for the root partition...

also, if it is out of space, how would i go about increasing the size on that partition?

df -h (for partitions)
du (for folders)

and take the space from somewhere where there is plenty of extra using parted. To get parted head over to www.freshmeat.net

Cool

If I remember correctly, parted is included in Slack8.1, so just install the package if you don't have it already.
