GTK-WARNING **: Can't open display

I use Fedore Core 3, when I run some gone like application, such as gedit, opera and so forth, always ok, but sometimes failed, the error message is "GTK-WARNING **: Can't open display" or "Cann't connect to X Server".

Echo $DISPLAY
:localhost:0.0

when I reset $DISPLAY as "0,0", then it will run ok.

I don't known the reason how and why to cause this problem, just wait someone to help me.

It can sometimes happen if your hostname changes, after you get logged in and X is running. If you get an Xterm up, and type in "hostname <somename>", then try to pull up a new X application, it'll often times not work. Just a thought.

Also, FC3 is pretty old, I think....Fedora 7 is out now, wouldn't hurt to upgrade.
