Flash is extremely slow and as such, I have been trying to find an alternative. So I downloaded gnash-0.8.5, untarred it, and tried to ./configure. For some reason the configure script thinks I'm using KDE4 when I'm on KDE3.5.10. Here is the error...

configure: error: You specified building kde4, but you have kde3 installed!

Any ideas how to fix this or any alternative ideas? You're help is greatly appreciated.


These are the alternatives I have tried:
My first option was to turn off hardware acceleration in the flash settings menu (this seemed to fix the problem for a lot of people). But when I right click -> settings, the menu is displayed, but the menu is frozen and I can't do anything with it. The flash application continues doing its thing, I just cant adjust my settings. So I tried to install Mplayer and some other plugin for firefox to download the swf files as movies. The mplayer installation script I downloaded gave me some error message more than halfway through the installation. I tried installing gnash-0.8.4 and it gave me several dependency errors and I'd rather not slip into the dependency pitfall right now. Any other ideas are greatly welcomed.

For gnash you need at least:

Then you can choose to use ffmpeg OR gstreamer. I usually use ffmpeg, because I don't like dealing with all the gstreamer plugins ... a PITA. A slackbuild of ffmpeg is available at slackbuilds.

Usually it doesn't properly install the FF plugin, you can manually copy it to ~/.mozilla/plugins from somewhere in the build directory, find it, it's called 'libgnashplugin.so' (usually at './plugin/.libs/libgnashplugin.so' from the top of the source directory)
