Can't launch System Settings menu after preupgrade to F17

Ran preupgrade from F16 to F17. Everything works fine, except that I cannot open the System Settings menu. If I try to open it from System Tools > System Settings or clicking the System Settings option under my user name, I get the same result - cursor spins for about 10 secs then nothing happens. All other menus under System Tools work OK. N.B. - I'm running under fallback mode because of older hardware. Not sure that has any relevance. Any ideas? Really like F17 performance on my computer, just this one niggling issue I'd like to understand.

Thanks, DV

I hoped the update to control-center the other day would fix my issue but it still persists.
I see the error I am receiving - Process /usr/bin/gnome-control-center was killed by signal 11 (SIGSEGV) - is being reported in various bug reports. Guess I just wait for the next update and eventual fix.
