Can't get XMMS to play a Shoutcast stream...

I am trying to listen to a Shoutcast stream that I rknow works in Windows using WinAmp, but I can't get XMMS to open it. It just says "Connecting to <IP Address or URL>:8000". I have tried both clicking on the Tune In link AND trying to Open Location, and nothing seems to work. It just sits there.

Any ideas? Can I provide you with more information? Please help! Thank you.

The "Tune In" button usually works fine for me... Have you tried copying the link location and loading xmms from command line? Here is a sample station:

xmms http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutc...e=filename.pls

If that does not load the playlist then try using 'curl' to get the stream location:

curl http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutc...e=filename.pls

yields this:

numberofentries=6
File1=http://64.236.34.67:80/stream/1018
Title1=(#1 - 418/19109) Groove Salad: a nicely chilled plate of ambient beats and grooves. [SomaFM]
Length1=-1
File2=http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1018
Title2=(#2 - 515/22690) Groove Salad: a nicely chilled plate of ambient beats and grooves. [SomaFM]
[CLIP]

Then try to play stream #1:

xmms http://64.236.34.67:80/stream/1018

Actually, here's something weird. I went to Shoutcast's site to see if I could play a different stream than the one I was trying, and they all worked just fine. So now I'm wondering what's different about this server that makes it not work with XMMS. I know it works if I use WinAmp, but it does NOT work if I use XMMS.

I have tried copying the link location, and Playing the location, and it still doesn't work.

Here's the location...let me know if you can get it to play, so I'll know if SOMEONE got it to work.

http://207.58.164.53:8000/listen.pls

Or:

http://sm-networks.net/listen.asx

That second link is what we use when we're playing the Matrix Online on their in-game media player. The first link is from the tune-in link on the main page.

I'll check the curl thing today too.

Weird. I wish I knew why mine doesn't work. But other radio stations work.

Don't know what it is. I have been looking around my options etc but there's nothing that looks like that could be wrong. Also it's a bit weird cause other stations work for you.

Here's a note for anyone else wanting to test it. The station is not up 100% of the time. Only when someone is DJing it. www.sm-networks.net is the home page. If the links don't work, it might be that the radio is down at the moment.

(And yes, I know THAT's not the issue...I've had 2 computers up running side-by-side, and one works, but the Linux/XMMS one doesn't.)

Hi,

I had the same problem you have (shoutcast plays well on winamp but not on xmms), but I solved it very easily.

Instead of using http://yourserver.com:8000/listen.pls on xmms, try using http://yourserver.com:8000/ and it will work
