I have installed both Slackware-14.2 and Win 10 pro on my new computer I first used cfdick to write 3 partitions A 04 type for Windows A 82 type for swap and a 83 type for Linux
The Windows and the Linux are both bootable. I then went to setup and setup the Swap and the Linux Partitions
the Linux is on /dev/sda2 and the windows is on /dev/sda1
the Linux Distrubition is on a USB Drive on /dev/sdd1
Now I install Win 10 Pro first reboot and install Linux when the Install is complete it asks me do I want a USB stick I say no the it asks Do you want to install to the MBR I say yes {automatic} it says Installing Linux Loader.
And hangs up and will not continue yet when I reboot from the HD Win 10 Pro boots.
I have no idea how to proceed but I did use a virtural terminal to verify that all the Linux programs were installed correctly

I am having the same problems and the directories are different and I attempted to burn a DVD Boot disk from the Slackware-14.0 DVD

And that failed

So I downloaded the .ISO file and attempted to burn that to a DVD and that failed...

I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong I have 258 pages of HOWTO's and am following each step by step

The one thing I keep running into is it the Slackware Directory there is suppose to be a file "boot-disk" and I can't find rawrite I have no idea where to find these.

I have dd.exe but when I attempt to use it nothing happens...
I also have UsbSlackDVDboot.sh But have no idea how to use it..and I really don't have 49.95 Dollars to goto the Slack store and buy the DVD set.

Can you boot from the usb drive and check if Slackware installed in /dev/sda2 ?
BTW which partition you choose for swap, /dev/sda3 ?

Your post does not make a lot of sense. You start off saying you have installed windows 10 and Slackware 14.2 and they are both bootable. You then indicate you go to setup to set up the swap and Linux partitions. You would need to do that before or during the install???

Later you say the Linux is on sda2 and then that the Linux Distribution is on sdd1.

Since you installed windows 10, did you use the default install and install it using UEFI? If so, you would need to install Slackware (if that is what you are trying to install?) in UEFI also.

How did you fail to burn the iso to a DVD? That's a pretty simple process, select to burn it as an image using whatever software you have.

Reading your post over several times, I'm not really sure if you are trying to install Slackware of if you have it installed and are trying to install some other unidentified Linux?? Clarifying exactly what you are trying to do would probably help someone to help you.

I did this WIN 10 Pro boots Slackware-14.2 does not so when attempting to us the Install DVD it can not find the boot but when I was in the instal I went to a Viritural Terminal and all the files and directories were installed
So I attempted a second Install and cfdisk ed the first install and began over with the same results

Was windows 10 pre-installed on the computer or did you install it? If pre-installed, it is almost certainly using UEFI so you need Slackware UEFI. If as you say in your last post, you are able to boot windows but not Slackware, the mixing of an MBR install with a UEFI install would be an explanation for this. You should be able to boot windows to see if you have an EFI partition and whether there are any Slackware files there. Using EFI with Slackware is explained at the link below.

I started with a blank 1TB hard drive brand new never formated or used

so you need Slackware UEFI
I am not sure what UEFI is neither the Win 10 Pro or the OSdisc did not Mention anything about it
With the Win 10 Pro it cam from the store on a USB Stick and with a new Product code
With the Slackware there are two things you need to know first
1} I am useing a Corrupt DVD Boot DVD to Boot the DVD and run cfdisk and setup from
the SWAP Type 82 is on /dev/sda2
the Linux type 83 is on /dev/sda1
and the Windows type 04 /dev/sda3
and the USB is on /dev/sdd1

How did you fail to burn the iso to a DVD

I did not burn an ISO it is a preinstalled slackware-14.0 DVD
and because it as corrupt and would only boot and run cfdisk and setup I used the USB {again I di not download a ISO} I downloaded
Slackware-14.2 File

This file starts out with haveing a Boot DVD and does not explain how to create one
That is why I boot from a DVD yet use the USB as the source media

did not have to do all that the files are allready on the DVD and the USB all I did was Mount them on the /dev/ file

with all tha my problem is I can't write to the MBR and the system freezes up
I run another setup and skip the LILO installer and can setup all the rest of the system
But when I attempt to boot I can't and the DVD boot will not mount and run the Slackware-14.2 system
SO I attempted to download the slackware-dvd-install-ISO and it will not unpack the ISO DVD as a boot file and I also attempted a USB iso and the same thing it unpacks as a non-boot file

I keep getting these go read this...this a file that deals with problems with install and as I have stated the problem is no and i repeate again NOT an install issue as i have stated all systems install fine and as I mentioned I can verify the install of both I can install both Windows and Slackeware 14.2 on my system what I can't do is boot both systems from either the hard drive or the boot DVD.

show me how to make Slackware Boot on my system after a clean install as I also mentioned during the Install LILO Loader can't write to the MBR and I can't get the DVD boot to boot Slackware

GRUB is a tar.zip file I can't use as I can not decompress it. That is also why I can't write a ISO file to a DVD or USB drive.

If I can't solve the write to the MBR then another DVD install Disk isn't going to matter
Also I have even attempted to create a BOOT FLOPPY and 2 ROOT FLOPPYS and attempted to install Slackware 2.3 and again it will not write to the MBR

ALSO THERE WAS A MENTION OF another program installed with the new Win 10 that will not allow any program without a Windows boot signature to run on the computer even the write t the MBR are denied and the only person that can override that is Microsoft.
I have now read 3 books and 47 HOWTO pages on the install and how to install and that is not the issue a all.

If you download disk 1 of Slackware, you need to have some sort of image burning software to burn it "as an image". I'm not sure windows has anything like that with a default install but you can downlaod and use something like imgburn to create a bootable DVD from the iso file.

You should be able to find some reference to EFI in the BIOS if your system has that capability. Methods to get this info varies with manufacturers.

If you are using an MBR system with windows and do not install the Lilo bootloader to the MBR, you will be dependent upon the windows bootloader to boot Slackware. You can do this by creating a file with the appropriate contents of the IPL of the Slackware partition and putting that file in the root of the windows system and then creating an entry for it using bcdedit.

You don't need to "unpack" the Slackware iso but rather burn it as an image as mentioned above, then boot it.

The Lilo install question is at the end of the Slackware setup, so at this point all OS is installed (but not lilo)

That's why I suggested to verify using the usb disk to boot from Slackware installation Live OS, then mount /dev/sda1 of HD and check content

If all is installed, you can install Lilo from here but at first verify /dev/sda1 content

My System is a "EFI Firmware Settings"
what this means is that on new Computers Windows uses the EFI Firmware to block ALL Non-Windows Signature Software from Booting and from
Writing to the MBR

You must take the following steps to allow you to write to the MBR with LILO

For you to make changes to the UEUI Firmware you need to boot in "SAFE MODE" this is not a simple thing as Windows does not make this information avaiable to the public " Don't ask where I got it and I won't have to kill you" {GRINZ}

To get to SAFE MODE "shutdown" the computer for 3 min. th turn it back on and let it boot as it always does.
At the Login window rather than typing in your password and logging in go to the right hand side bottom and hit the button for "RESTART"
While holding the "SHIFT" hit the Restart Button and the system will re-boot into "Safe Mode"
Once you are in "SAFE MODE" the following option is given
"Recovery" and 2 buttons to choose from
"see advanced repair options"
"Restart My PC"
Hit Button "see advanced repair options"you will get a screen that says " Choose An Option"
1} "Continue" 2} "Troubleshoot" 3} " Turn Off Your PC"
Choose "Advanced settings" you will then get another screen with the following choices on it
1}Systems Restore" 2" Systems Recovery" 3} systems repair 4}"Command Prompt" 5}" Startup settings UEFI Firmware settings"
hit Startup settings UEFI Firmware settings" You will get
"Restart change EUFI Settings" or "Reboot"
Hit Restart It will take you onto the BIO's Setup Utility
Goto Boot Disable Fast Boot and Disable Boot manager option 1
Hit F-10 ans save and exit

and again boot into "safe mode" and when loaded hit "start" hit "Run" when the command prompt comes up type in msconfig it takes you to an Advanced Options screen Choose "Boot"
the following are now presented
"Safe Boot"
"No GUI Boot"
"Boot Log
I turned off "Safe Boot" {this turns off the UEFI Firmware}
and I want a log file of the boots on my Computer"
And then set the "Time Out"Default is 30 sec
then hit "RESTART"
you now have disabled the UEFI Firmware on your computer
Run setup again
and setup Swap and Linux and Windows and USB
when prompted Write to MBR it will now write and you can continue to write both Linux and Windows to the MBR Continue with the rest of the setup and at the end " Exit Setup"
then hit " CTRL ALT DEL"
restarts the computer ans when it comes up it ow presents you te choice to boot
"Windows" or Linux
and upon default will reboot the system you chose to boot first after time out
