Wheezy won't boot into X

Good people,

I'm running Debian Wheezy and until about 15 minutes ago all was hunky dory. I did my normal apt-get update & upgrade. All good.

But after a reboot, Wheezy won't boot into X. I get stuck on the cli. If I run "startx", the window manager does indeed start and all seems to be well. However, I don't want to start X. I want it to boot straight into X, like it used to.

Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Can I post any further info so that the problem can be analysed and solved?

Thanks for your help.

Joe

So it appears that whatever window manager was installed, had mysteriously disappeared.

Solution? Install it again ...

Reinstalling gdm3 seems to have done the trick.

But why was it a problem in the first place?
