usb bootable linux slackware64-14-1 can't see free space on laptop running windows 8

Im running windows 8 on a 64 bit machine. want to install linux slackware 64-14-1 and using a live bootable usb. when i use cfdisk I can't see free space to install linux into. the space is bundled up as the partition with the current os and the other with important files even after creating new volumes. I need some advise on how to work around this.

What I did last week is: shrink the windows partition first in Windows OS, then you can use cfdisk to create one or two new partitions.

Windows will almost always take up the entire disk and as suggested above, you will need to shrink the windows partitions to create unallocated space using Disk Management in windows. There isn't much point in creating a partition in windows as you will need to create a Linux filesystem on the partition in any case and you can't do that with a default windows install.
