[SOLVED] Uninstall Crossover and e-Sword

Dual Boot system - ubuntu / Vista.

Need to uninstall e-Sword and then Crossover. I have checked the previous threads, but cannot quite make any sense of exactly how to go about it with either of these two applications.

Unfortunately I installed a new copy of an e-Sword / crossover bundle made for Linux, but did not realize that this would virtually destroy my existing (Windows) copy's add on's - which were originally free but now, replacing them for this new version, comes at a cost . Thankyou Rick Meyers, for that pleasant surprise. My fault really - I should have read the fine print.

So, how did you install them ?

Through Synaptic Package Manager ?
Through .deb package ?
Through .tar.gz package ?

The method to un-install them depends on how you installed them.

Umm - I had been in contact with e-sword asking them about running in Linux. They sent me an email with a link to a download site which sent me to another site - which etc etc........ four or five pages of adverst later the download button actually started the download and I had an e-Sword icon on both my desktops (Ubuntu and Windows. I have followed the instructions from a Google find - but both "Applications" and "System" drop downs do not contain the the suggested uninstall. I will go and find the site and post it here, so you can see the instructions I have tried to follow - be back

NOTE: there is no "add/remove" item in the "Applications" menu and when I try Synaptic e-Sword is not there. I am presuming that that is because I didn't install through Synaptic ?

Is there something called "Ubuntu Software Center" in the Applications menu ?

Yes - But no trace of e-Sword or crossover in the installed software list?

The command line for the desktop short cut is (in case it is useful)

/home/des/.cxoffice/e-Sword/desktopdata/cxmenu/Desktop.C^5E3A^5Fusers^5Fcrossover^5FDesktop/e-Sword"

Does this say anything ?

dpkg --info crossover.deb

Before running the above command, run crossover from the terminal to check that there are no capital and small letter errors.

i.e. Running Crossover and crossover will give different results.

Also run this and see if it says anything ?

Under "applications" there is "CrossOver" and ( I have just noticed) there is an "uninstall" option - which warns that this will:-

I have tried the other two commands that you suggested (I had to install "show") - both results were 'no such file exists' - and I used all three possible's ie crossover Crossover and CrossOver.

So what happened when you tried that ? Was it successful ?
Also "please" paste here the link from where you downloaded CrossOver.

It says it is uninstalled - but then adds

I have run that command line and get "unexpected operator"

The CrossOver menu and sub menu still appears in 'applications'

The download link is something I don't know or remember - sorry. Is that information stored any place on my computer ?

For getting into root, this will ask for password:

This info is not stored on your computer. I wanted that link because while downloading the exact and complete name of the software gets shown.

That worked CrossOver has now completely disappeared from the applications menu We have yet to make e-Sword dissappear.

I wish I could find that information for you. I will see the person who helped me with it on Sunday. So I will make further enquiries then.
