This is what I used to do:
Start pinging the ftp that provide installation (find the nearest one) e.g.:
ping ftp.suse.com
PING ftp.suse.com (217.9.113.66)
Browse where the linux version intended to install in that ftp e.g.:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.2
Boot using the downloaded, burned e.g. 8.2 boot.iso then (if my mem correct):
start: new installation
from: ftp
load network driver: e.g. realtek8987too
enter the ip: 217.9.113.66
enter the path: /pub/suse/i386/8.2
starting installation options
