Installed Ubuntu on External Hard Drive, now can't boot without it!

Installed Ubuntu on External Hard Drive, now can't boot without it!
Hi,
Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my family's external hard drive. I plugged it into the home computer so that I could use it, and it very nicely gave me the option to boot into the Windows XP Home on the computer's HDD. Now, when we turn on the computer, it comes up with "grub error 22" unless the external hard drive is plugged in. This is a huge inconvenience, and I was wondering if anyone could help me fix this problem?
FIXED!!!!
For anyone who has this problem, do this:
1. turn off ubuntu
2. take out the external HDD
3. put in a Windows disk
4. boot into the windows disk, like u did to install ubuntu
5. wait for everything to load
6. press the R button
7. select partition 1, or whatever
8. type "fixmbr" and press enter
9. type "y" and press enter
10. reboot. fixed!
