please include the computer specs
CPU,RAM,the age if older than say 5 years
Is it 32 bit or 64 bit ?
if a 64 bit computer is it a 32 bit or 64 bit OS ( version of mint) ?

is this a real install to the hard drive ?
or a virtual install on something like virtualbox
or
is it a "live" version running off a dvd

Is this a Desktop ,or a laptop, or a "netbook / tablet" handheld ?

this should not be the problem , but might .
if the default language is NOT the same as the country you are in
say, for example "English" but you are in Germany or Japan . That might cause some problems , but should not these days .

Also if that was the issue there might be more problems

can you read the logs ?
/var/log/???
the "massages" and "boot.0.log" files should show an error
also there might be a "xorg.log" if so look for a " (EE)
that double ee is an error

on the boot screen where you login , there also might be a link to any boot error massages
if so are there any errors
