First of all, I have a hole in my Microsoft Exchange server which allows anyone to use my mail server to spam with. Technically its called a Open Relay. If you have a mail server you may want to check out ORDB.org for more info.
Anyways, I was told the way to plug the hole is to setup a Slackware server between the Internet connection and my Exchange Server, and the Slackware server will be a Mail Que which the Exchange server draws from. Since upgrading the Exchange server is too costly, I've selected this option. Can anyone point me to a good way to do this?? I'm a newbie in the linux world. Thanks
I'm sure it'll be simple enough. First you'll wanna get Slackware 8 and install it, making sure fetchmail and sendmail and maybe the mailx daemons get installed. I am thinking there are a coouple of ways you could do it, but it's definately a great and secure way of transporting mail from the Internet to your MS mail server.
Ok, I got my Slackware CD, installed packages A, AP and N. Only 2 Gig drive, so I installed only the basic stuff. Configured the server with the proper IP, and configured SendMail with a DNS address, and so on. Now, I'm not sure if I have Fetch mail installed? How can I check? And if you can point me at any HowTo's for this, it would be appreciated. Thanks
what version of windows are you running, cuz in nt there is a service pack you can get that will fix that. You just click an option to disallow mail relaying. Althogh I'd say do the slackware thing good experience. I had the same problem not long ago.

5.0, so there is no fix. But as you said, good experience. I'm almost there!!
