Help Accidently deletd /var/*

Hi
I am an arsehole .I logged into my system as root and since I was running out of disk space I deleted everything that was in /var .Now when I rebooted mu system I got a lot of messages and it hangs at "starting system logger" for 5 minutes before showing up the login prompt.I can't either start the xserver.
Please help I don't want to reinstall .

well, first off, how long have you had Linux installed?
second, what distro is it?
third, how much have you changed in the /var/* ?

depending on your reply, you might just want to save your /home and possibly /root and reinstall (if this is a new install)

I had linux for 3 months .Distro is Mandriva 2005 Limited Edition and I didn't touched /var/* before deleting.

..in that case. save your /home dir at least and reinstall....
