hm, neither kmix nor alsamixer did any difference. i've tried every possible combination of muting/unmuting channels without luck.
any more suggestions? oh, and thank you guys for helping me out

yup, it is and the cable is working too, i checked it with a diskman.

I got the same problem before. It was fixed after I see the following web page:

I'm not sure what card everyone who posted is using but mine is a Sound Blaster Audigy2 Platinum and im running Fedora Core 3.
The problem I'm having is that the headphone jack on my live drive works great! However, the jacks on the back produce nothing. I'd rather have my speakers plugged in the back so its rather annoying. Anyone have any ideas about what is causing this/how to fix it? I've tried muting everything people posted about in the previous posts but it did nothing.
