Desktop cube isn't persistent

On Ubuntu Karmic, my desktop cube only works when I press ctrl alt leftclick. The moment I let up on the keys, the desktop goes back to wall.
I'm sorry if the answer is staring me in the face. I've googled my brains out!

You really can't just have a desktop cube just sit there. I'm pretty sure sure you have to hold down a key combo for it to work. The only possible way to change that is to go to CCSM and see what other combos you can do that.
