cdrom won't mount

I've just set up college linux on an old p3 box I had lying around. Installation went without a hitch, but I can't mount my cdrom drive. When I try from the shell or from the desktop it says "wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdc, or too many mounted file systems". Does anybody know how I can fix this probem?

java

Also it doesn't recognize the java or javac commands, even though java is installed. What do I do?

for the first question:
try # mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
instead. If it is a standard CD, this should work.
And make sure if your cdrom is hdc.

If you know where java is installed, that s fine.
If you don't, try to look for it with:
$ find / -name java
remember the location.
Then,
$ export PATH=/path/to/java:$PATH (*if you are using bash*)
Sorry but I forgot the command in c shell...
somebody please help me fill in

gd luck.
