I boot ok, but I get a message no hard drive found. I have 2 choices, edit/add device and it shows a AMD by default, but scroolling I dont see the one I have (toshiba).

What can I do to install?

Im using a CD with FC5. When I boot using the CD, it start without problems, but at one point, I get a message that no harddrive found, and it shows me by default AMD, I have an option for add device, but when I scroll down to all the vendors, I dont have toshiba, which is my harddrive vendor. I'm using a b130 intel cel. M 1.5 gHz, I'm not sure if that affects somehow.

I can't move any further from this, because of the harddrive message.

I dont know what to do, I've tried using Vmware and I got the same error.

what do you recommend? is there a way to install drivers at the installation time? I have xp on the pc and I have an extra partition E: with 5 GB to install there FD5. I dont know if installing in the whole disk would be a good idea and a solution.

The problem is the interaction between the Dell hardware and Fedora Core. The problem is not really that it can't see the disk itself, but the controller that runs the disk. That is a more common error with SATA disks on funky MOBO controllers, but obviously it can happen on old school IDE drives as well. If you go to http://www.google.com/linux and search for {install linux dell b130}, you won't see many happy campers who used Fedora. A quick search showed that most people could not get it installed, and those that did had major problems including the system hanging. There seems to be many people who had success with Ubuntu, and also Gentoo. If you are new to linux, you'd probably find Ubuntu easier to deal with at first, although taking the more "difficult" path and using Gentoo can make you and you linux knowledge much stronger.

There are hits from the google search that suggested FC5 should install on a b130 without difficulty. Important question, does the installer not see the disks, or simply not see free space? Also, I'm not sure what your computer proficiency is like, but free space means unpartitioned, blank space on a drive, not just formatted but unused space. If your E:/ drive for example is a 30 GB partition on the single hard disk, and you are using 20 GB of it, you do NOT have 10 GB of space to install linux, you have 10 GB of already partitioned space that isn't used. Major major difference. Reading your post again, I get the impression the 5 GB E partition was formatted by Windows. That could be your issue. If nothing is on E, delete the partition in Windows, then try the Fedora Installer again. It has been a while since I used windows, but I think Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk something will allow you to completely delete the E drive, freeing up the space for Fedora or Ubuntu/Gentoo/Debian/Slack etc!

I have tried both ways, having a partion with fat, and having a partition with unallocated space, like new, ready to use linux to partition that one. is the harddrive that is not finding it. 'cause I tried installing freebsd and installed ok but the problem is with fc5, so I've figured is like you say, no much support for b130 on fc5. I'll try gentoo, even though the reason was that I got a book for fc5, but Ill have to sell it and get a new one for gentoo.
