Can't figure out DISPLAY and GUI apps from remote console.

I'd like to be able to run certain programs on a remote desktop. Lets take gaim for example. I log into my home PC via ssh and upon running 'gaim from the CLI, I obviously get:

Code:
forever root # gaim
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

(gaim:4327): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdisplay-x11.c: line 337 (gdk_display_get_name): assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed

** (gaim:4327): WARNING **: cannot open display: unset
where do I have to look to figure out how to point it to the default x11 display? and what is the default x11 display address? 0:0? Im confused and I've already tried searching for similar threads.

These lines make my root user be able to run graphical programs under normal user x11. Try them, but edit to meet your use:

as normal user: xhost + localhost

as the user logged in sss remote: export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0

Let me know if you succeed.
