Trying to install skype on a new pc running gutsy gibbon , but failing.
If i do a search in synoptic package manager, i get 3 install file options:
1: skype common. this one seems ok to install
2: skype. this one I get following message:
Depends: libqt4-gui but it is not going to be installed
Depends: dbus-x11 (>=1.0.0) but it is not installable
3: Skype-static. This one I get:
Depends: dbus-x11 (>=1.0.0) but it is not installable
If i try to install directly from desktop package I get:
cannot install 'libqt4-gui'
Also, trying to install/activate spam assassin for evolution and get this:
andrew@andrew-desktop:~$ apt-get install spamassassin
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13 Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
What do I do next?! Or am I going about it the wrong way? (Evolution tells me it can't install the plugins and to check if the package is installed)
andrew@andrew-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install spamassassin
[sudo] password for andrew:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
spamassassin: Depends: libdigest-sha1-perl but it is not installable
Depends: libarchive-tar-perl (>= 1.23) but it is not installable
Depends: libnet-dns-perl (>= 0.58) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libio-zlib-perl (>= 1.04) but it is not installable
Depends: libmail-spf-perl but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
