Hi all,

I have been having problem with the X Display for the past 2 weeks.

We perform dd copy to make our lives easier.. (Well, it didn't go smoothly this time)

After performing dd, plug in the disk and walla! All systems go.. (with minor network and hostname reconfiguring..) then comes the problem with the X server.. I've reinstalled drivers, edit and recopy our xorg.conf file but to no avail.

In the /var/log/messages:

Then, ran the X -configure commandEE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/mouse
No such file or directory.
(EE) Mouse0: cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Mouse0"
No core pointer

Fatal server error:
failed to initialize core devices

I'm running out of ideas..
Please assist..

(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/mouse looks hopeful.

I don't know RHRL but there are several common /dev entries used for mice.
Check to see which one you have and edit your xorg.conf by hand to change /dev/mouse to whatever you have.
Look for /dev/psaux ... thats old and rarely used now
We know you don't have /dev/mouse
Look for /dev/input/mice if you have that, you will also have /dev/input/mouse0 ad maybe others.

If you only have a single pointing device, use /dev/input/mice in place of /dev/mouse (if it exists)
Thats the events from *all* pointers.
If you have several pointers and need to set them up seperately, use /dev/input/mouse0 or whatever.
The mouseX interfaces give you the events for a single pointer.
