Can't boot after repartitioning (using lilo/install cds)
I have winXP, Debian and Suse installed on my computer (probably a bit odd but I'm like that). They were all primary partitions (just because partition magic recommended doing it that way), but I wanted to create another partition to try out FreeBSD, and also increase the space of my Debian partition.
But, I couldn't do this without converting one or more primary partition into a logical one, so I put my Debian, Suse and swap partitions into an extended partition, resized my debian partition and created another partition. The only partition that moved was the XP partition.
I realized that I wouldn't be able to boot Debian or Suse after doing this, but I thought it'd be easy to fix - unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. I used the Debian install disk to make the system bootable again, and I have all the same boot options as before (Debian with a choice of 2 kernels, Suse and windows), but I can only boot to XP - i get kernel panic messages saying it can't mount the root FS with Debian, and with suse I think I just get a "GRUB>" prompt that won't do anything (yes, I have a weird setup - if I choose to use Suse from the lilo menu Suse then boots with grub, this is because I installed Suse first, and I couldn't get Debian to boot from the Suse grub thing)
I've tried using the Suse install disk to boot Suse, but it won't boot and tries to get me to run fsck manually (when I haven't been able to boot before this disk has saved me, so not sure what to do without it)
Using windows to look at my other partitions all the files still seem to be there, so I haven't managed to completely delete everything
Anyone know how I can fix this? I can run Knoppix and access my other partitions, but I can't get the lilo command to run after "chroot"ing to Debian (probably because I'm doing something wrong)
