pppd died: pppd options error (exit code 2

Hi,

I've just install Linux (a Suse version) and I’m turning around in the past three days with the modem connection. I’m eager to lay down Windows and Microsoft, but if I can’t solve this issue…

Modem configuration and provider is OK. I used Yast to configure it. No errors pumping up, but when I click Kinternet, the log displays the following message:

“pppd died: pppd options error (exit code 2)”.

I searched the internet and found a few advices on the same error, but none solves my problem.

Note: I’m a brand new Linux user and not very skilful with it.

Thank you

hi taveirac,

i've just upgraded a machine running suse 8.2 to 9.0..

i'm making an assumption / guess here : you're using a machine with a built in pci modem ....

suse say in their literature that the latest release has improved support for windows software modems (winmodems). however, i got exactly the same error as you, when i tried to use the internal windows modem built in to my machine.

so i went straight back to the trusty external modem i had been using before and all was fine.

if you're using an internal modem, there's a fair chance that it will be a cheapo winmodem. do yourself a favour and cut out a lot of hassle - go and buy a proper *hardware* modem, which will work straight away for you. i'd advise an external device that plugs into a spare *serial* port (not usb - some of those are winmodems...).

hope this helps..

(one night's playing, and suse 9.0 seems great!)
