Can't reach www.linuxmint.com

Hello all,

This is probably a shot in the dark, but I'm having an issue and I'm wondering if anyone has any idea why this might happen. I can't reach www.linuxmint.com on my university's connection for some strange reason. Anyone who reads this can check, but I'm pretty sure it's not a problem on Mint's end - I believe it's my university's connection.

It's strange, because our Internet connection works fine here, but for some reason linuxmint.com (and ultimate-guitar.com as well, I've noticed) just time out when I try to visit them. That would be fine, except that it means that some apt-get updates don't work. This could also mean me missing out on security and other important updates, which just won't fly. If there's no way to fix this problem, I might have to switch back to Ubuntu.

Does anyone have ANY idea why I might be having this problem?

Have you spoken to your admins? Run a traceroute to see where it dies and then take the output to the admins and see if it's a problem at the university end.

Search the forums for Linuxmint. You'll find a few threads, from the past, where it wasn't reachable. Maybe the problems have returned.

Cheers.

I'm almost positive the problem is not on my end; I just thought I'd post about it here since I don't know everything. In any case, I e-mailed the ITS department about it, and the guy who replied to me said he has encountered this same problem before with a different site, and access to the site was opened up. They're looking into it so most likely the site had been blocked for some reason and thus they will unblock it.

The joy of blocking programs! On a site I worked on the pension pages were blocked because the blocker company had misidentified it..... The reason I thought it may be at your end is that the site was fine for me from home.
