Prove to me it's not all Vapourware....

Over the last 5 years or more there has been an unending stream of "Linux on this" device, "Linux on that" device press releases.

So now I have a task for such a device and I start following the links.

Vapourware.

Coming soon.

err, some unfortunate technical issues.

Company pulled the plug.

Company has gone down the plug hole.

You're in a Maze of twisty little links, all the same, but with no "Buy Now" Button.

You're in a twisty Maze of little links, all the same, but with no "Buy Now" Button.

You're in a little Maze all the same, of twisty links, but with no "Buy Now" Button.

Tell, me ain't true.

The closest I have found are...
http://us.direct.openmoko.com/products/neo-freerunner
(But falls slightly into the "some unfortunate technical issues" category)

Ubiquiti wireless routers...http://ubnt.com with buy me page at
http://www.microcom.us/ps5ext.html
(very close, but actually I want audio / gpio rather than wireless i/o)

Logic supply comes close, but a tad large for a "carryable"...
http://www.logicsupply.com/categories/pico_systems

Nokia N810
http://www.nseries.com/products/n810

Archos, looks cute but is expensive...
https://store.archos.com/shopping_cart.php

The Zaurus looked so promising... but has been strangled by it's parent.

So please, prove to me it ain't all vapour and hype...

Please post links to the "Buy Now" pages of open hackable linux based mobile devices.

Thanks!

Go on, do better than that.

I'm claiming the very high ratio of "linux device" press releases to "buy open linux device now" pages is getting pretty silly. If you think it's a rant deserving no reply, try prove me wrong.

Bet you can't, so leave this thread to those who perhaps can.

I dearly love to be proven wrong. I've spent night after night, credit card in hand, digging the net getting more and more frustrated.

Removed response and reported thread as flamebait.

Sigh! It not flamebait, but a frustrated plea...

It's a frustrated plea, not flamebait.

I have literally followed about a hundred links off the various sites like slashdot and linuxdevices announcing interesting new linux based devices, hoping to actually buy one.

But maybe 1 in 20 turned up a real device I could consider buying (and those not nearly as juicy as those promised in the other 19 links).

So perhaps I asked in a less than elegant fashion, lack of sleep from several extremely frustrating nights trawling the through marketing drivel to find rare hard tech specs and prices is getting to me.

But it is an honest Linux Question nonetheless.

What mobile _open_ linux devices can I actually buy now? Can people give me hard links to "buy open linux device now" pages, not vapourous "coming soon" press releases.

I'd say this thread has started on the wrong foot.....

I'm closing this---if only for everyone to take a deep breath.

I encourage the OP to start a new thread with a more specific question. Also, feel free to send me private e-mail.
