Logitech Mouse + xorg = doesn't work

To start off I have a Logitech keyboard/mouse wireless usb combo. Next, they ran perfectly under Win2k, WinXP, Mandrake 9.1, Mandrake 9.2, Knoppix...etc so the hardware is fine.

I just replaced my Mandrake partiton with the new Slack 10 and now my mouse doesn't work in X.

I have tried a bunch of options and so far the cursor either flips out everywhere, only follows the y-axis, or only goes right on the x-axis.
(BTW, when it is following the y-axis, all the buttons {left, right, thumb, scroll} make the cursor move right)

my current xorg config looks like this:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
EndSection
And I have aslo tried every different protocal to no avail. If I can't find a solution by the end of the week I am going to say sucks to xorg and jump back to a working XFree86.

If you had it working under X86 it should work under Xorg.

I have a similar issue using a wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse combo with xorg on Fedora Core 2. If I use any protocol except imps/2 the mouse jumps everywhere, or if I boot into the 2.6.6 kernel (2.6.5 works), it jumps around no matter what protocol I use. Also, my keyboard on either kernel sometimes spits out spaces when I'm not pressing space, or doesn't put out a space when I do press the spacebar. Very odd.

i'm curious why under identifier it says "Mouse" rather than "Mouse1" ... my Slackware 10.0 went ape when i tried changing that. X wouldn't even start. doesn't exactly sound like the problem you're having though.

one thing you might try is:

xorgconfig

while logged in as root. it should regenerate a configuration file and it may work. if it does, tweak it to add "ZAxisMapping" and whatever other tweaks.

good luck!

It seems like Slack 10 has curious issues with USB mice...I have an off brand USB mouse that has the same problem. The weird thing is that sometimes I can get it working perfectly (it's been so random that I can't figure out what it was I did to my xorg.conf that fixed it) but then after I reboot it goes back to the y-axis only behavior.
