Ok, well since I KNEW my drive was capable of UDMA5 and there was no reason why i was getting my 12 second bufferd test, so i put my HD on my raid controler, enabled it, and then spent then night looking for the right drivers. Here was my old tests....
/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.23 seconds =556.52 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 12.64 seconds = 5.06 MB/sec
Not right at all....
Here are my current tests with the raid controler...
/dev/sda3:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.21 seconds =609.52 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.67 seconds = 38.32 MB/sec
If you are having this problem dl this file and unzip the file.
http://www.promise.com/support/file/T-FTS-02-RHD73.zip within it will be 2 more zips, one for a uni-procesor (the rhup-..) this is the one you want. Unzip that. Now what i did was do a fresh install because i wasnt adding a drive i was moving my main drive to the raid controler. However the readme gives steps on how to add the raid. If you want to do a fresh install, with redhat for example, when the install comes up type "linux noprobe" and when it asks you to find scsi interfaces, hit F2 and it will look on the disk. Then go down to FastTrack* (It will be the only fast track on the list). Then install like normal! I hope his helps someone out. I know someone with the same board as me was having this problem. Good luck!
