Hi all,

I used to have RH7 and just install (instead) the RH9.
I have got 2 HD and my problem is now I can not mount the secund one. I want to dedicate this one only to Oracle ( like before).
Here is what I have done :

* fdisk /dev/hdc1
Then I created a single primary partition

* mkfs /dev/hdc1

* mkdir /secon

and I modified the etc\fstab with :
/dev/hdc1 /secon defaults 1 1

Now I am able to see it in KDiskFree but when I try to mount it, I get :
"mount: fs type defaults not supported by kernel"

You didn't specify a file system type in your /etc/fstab file.

See man pages fstab and mount for additional help.

So what filesystem did you format the drive as? ext2?

/dev/hdc1 /secon defaults 1 1

Should be

/dev/hdc1 /secon <fs> defaults 1 1

Replace <fs> with file system type.

I reformated it using :

mkfs.ext2 /dev/hdc1

and changed the fstab :
/dev/hdc1 /secon ext3 defaults 1 1

From KdiskFree, I get :

"mount -text3 /dev/hdc1 /secon -o defaults
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdc1,
or too many mounted file systems"

( I only got the /home and / mounted)
Any idea ?

OK... I Just realised my mistake, while I was rereading my post...

I reformarted using mkfs.ext3 /dev/hdc1 instead, and not this works fine!

You formated the partition as ext2 so you need to specify the file system type in /etc/fstab as ext2 and use ext2 in your mount command too.
