Hello I am building a 1u server that will be running FreeBSD 5.x.
I am not the best w/ hardware, especially server hardware. Can anyone let me know if I am about to buy parts that are either not going to work together, not going to fit in the case, or wont be compatable with FreeBSD 5.
:: CONFIG A ::
What I plan to do is have 1 OS hdd. I want to be able to replace the OS drive easily with another hdd. This drive I want to set up in the 5.25" ext bay. (dosn't need to be hot-swap, but easily changable).
I also want to set up 3 additional hdd's using RAID 5. Two of these hdd's will use the hidden 3.5 spaces, and one use the remaining 3.5 space.
This method gives me 240G of usable space, and a seperate os drive that can easily be replaced.. But the system will be down for a very long time if I need to rebuild a drive.
:: CONFIG B ::
4 Hdd's set up to use raid 1+0...
This method gives me 160G of usable space, and no easily changable os drive. But, i can rebuild a new hdd while the os is running, thus causing less down time.
here is the equipment that I want to buy.
I imagine that I will need some sort of mount kit to get the OS drive to fit in the 5.25 bay. I found one on ebay, but it dosn't look like its there anymore.
