I bought Canon PIXMA iP4000 photo printer but can't find its driver in Wizard (SuSE 9.2).
What to do?
I am newbie wit Linux/SuSE.
Also, plan to buy DVD burner and found this one as very god offer:
tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1419116&sku=N52-1262
How can I check does SuSE 9.2 support this DVD burner?
Canon printer support isn't that good in Linux -- a Canon issue. I have a Canon i560 and it wasn't supported out of the box but I did find a commercial package that has very up to-date printer support at www.turboprint.de. You can try turboprint for free to see if it works for you.
DVD and CD devices almost always work with Linux. I haven't found one yet that didn't. If you look in this sites Main Menu (upper right) you'll see "Linux HCL" (Hardware Compatibility List). Like the forum, these are all user contributions so it isn't all encompassing but, it is useful.

Right after I posted the question - I downloaded TurboPrint. Looks like I did the right thing.

There are no drivers for Canon PIXMA iP4000. Taking the advice of Mango Parfait at http://www.tuxmagazine.com issue 5, page 19-20, you could use CUPS and the Canon BJC-7004 driver. She advices you to install bjfilter850, bjfiltercom, bjfiltercups and bjfilterpixus, wich might increase quality.
Turbo Print is a nice solution to print with the iP4000. I ran the test and it worked for me using FC4 and a USB connect. I had to do a little tweaking to get it going. I did not buy the software as I am still trying to get the rpm's from the Canon Japan site to work out. (Search the iP4100 same as the 4000 here). I have modified the PPD file for the foomatic database but am currently having some trouble reconfiguing that foomatic db and then I think (I'm a newbie in this about a week) I might have to recompile the kernel. As you can tell, I get my education the hard way, but it sticks, and what the heck, I like blind alleys. I found a few good tips, the latest will probably make everything work. It's at the fedora forum. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archiv...p/t-63790.html
Give it a go if you don't want to pop for Turbo Print. That will be my last resort. I'll post next week it it all works.
