LOL I refer to that as "The Next Big Thing", and I do have a background in Behavior Management and Behavior Modification.
When I develop a serious interest in something it's all or nothing. Go big or stay home. It could be my driving obsession for years, then I may lose interest in it and hit a low spot waiting for the "next big thing" to come along and capture my attention, be it video games, radio equipment, martial arts, watches, computers, etc. Highs and Lows.
It helps to be able to manage your time efficiently to keep from getting bored or too wrapped up in one thing. I may do nothing but fiddle with computers for a week or two, then unplug my cable modem and play video games a week. Sometimes it's selections from my considerable movie collection, or I may not want to do anything but turn down the volume on the TV, kick back and listen to music.

There are others who lack this balance, neglect their priorities and get super off track. At the extreme end are the few gamers who died gaming for too long in cybercafe in Asia. It helps for each person to be aware and set their balance of activities.
You have to know when to draw the line, not everybody does. At what point does collecting become hoarding?
I could easily have too many plants for my apartment. I'll post pix of my Fukien Tea bonsai in a couple months when its foliage is full.
Not a possibility in my universe, My world is a sandbox here in the desert. But my cat figures all plants in pots, trays, bins or buckets are fair game to be used as litter boxes. Go figure. She catches mice and other critters, So it is a trade off to be put up with. Peppermint oil would probably stop this, But I just don't have the desire like you do. So I live with this arrangement.
Died playing a video game. Now that is a wonderment.
I have a Peace Lilly I got for my grandma as one of those little plants you send from a flower shop when she was in the hospital with cancer in 1983. It's outlasted a lot of things in my life.
I almost killed it a couple years ago by sticking too many Job plant feeder sticks in the pot. It got down to 1 leaf and I almost gave up on it, but thought as long as it was still alive there was a chance. I took it out of the pot, washed all the old soil off the roots and re-potted it into 2 small pots.

My Mom has a green thumb. All my kin . Bros and Sis. Seemed to lack this passion in our DNA. May be because we tended the garden for Mom. It has been been passed on to one Of My Nieces. Who has the passion you have. Her city back yard is the Garden of Eden.
I probably exaggerate. But that is what crazy uncles are for.
Edit: Maybe you can start a thread like I did about gardening and plant maint.
It might get me off my butt and use some of my land for a garden instead of a dog rest room area.
