Unhappy Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko' in FC5!

installed kernel and source 2.6.16 - didnt mess up there i sure! wats wrong??? im a newbie, trying hard to get this working, please help....!!

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most
frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s).

Did you read the sticky at the top of this forum?

In any case, install yumex (e.g.: Run yum install yumex), start it, and install the nVidia driver from the livna repository. (When you install yumex it should install the livna repository in /etc/yum.repos.d/. If it didn't, add the following file to that directory:
Code:
$ cat /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo
[livna]
name=Livna for Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Base
baseurl=
        http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/
        http://livna.cat.pdx.edu/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/
        http://wftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/livna/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/
        http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/
failovermethod=priority
#mirrorlist=http://rpm.livna.org/mirrorlist-5
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-livna

[livna-debuginfo]
name=Livna for Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Debug
baseurl=
        http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/debug/
        http://livna.cat.pdx.edu/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/debug/
        http://wftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/livna/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/debug/
        http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/debug/
failovermethod=priority
enabled=0
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-livna
gpgcheck=1

[livna-source]
name=Livna for Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Source
baseurl=
        http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/SRPMS/
        http://livna.cat.pdx.edu/fedora/$releasever/SRPMS/

While PTrenholme's solution may have worked when he/she wrote it (5-11-2006), it does not work now (Feb 2007). The RPM-GPG-KEY-livna could not be found. After many hours of encountering different problems and following solutions found here for each one, it all ended up being a waste of time. In the end it came down to these few steps.....

#init 3

#yum install yumex

check for existing kernel(s)
#rpm -q kernel

remove/uninstall them (one at a time if more than one)
#rpm -e <exact name>

this next command is not a link to be clicked on, it should be typed in as you see it (except omit the space after http)
#rpm -ivh http ://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm

#init 5

Go into yumextender, install nvidia driver
