[SOLVED] freshly installed squeeze doesn't have gdm(X server)?

hi all,
i got a copy of CD1 from http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/we...s/i386/iso-cd/.
And then, i noticed there was no gdm(X server) installed.
Is it different from Lenny?
It is possible to install X from the CD?

The new gdm 2.30 is packaged as gdm3 for us who want to keep the old, bloatless gdm 2.20 for systems without gnome.

The packages that each iso contains are listed here
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/we.../i386/list-cd/

Yours contains gdm3 and xorg.

Each iso can be used as a repo and, if its not already listed in your sources.list, you can add it with

That would depend on what options you took during the install.
If you didn't check the 'desktop' option then yes you would have to install X manually.

But in the installation, there were only 3 options, which where
Mail Server
SSH Server
Standard System Utilities
I remember Lenny got a lot of choices.

It's been a while since I installed Squeeze on anything but I can pretty much guarantee you there is a desktop option.
It really doesn't matter that you didn't use this option as you can install all you need later.
Many Debian users including me prefer to use the net-install disc and install a minimal system.
Once the basic system is installed,then you can install X and a window manager or desktop environment of your choice.
So don't worry,its just one of the cool things about Debian!.
