To pass on information concerning computer experiences especially with my favorite distro 'Slackware"

I just finished being frustrated installing software that lets my LaserJet CP1525nw work; and as a bonus the color is really good for me.
But I have a little niggle after downloading stuff from the HPLIP site and I did download and read everything. I discovered that following compile instructions failed.
A person must configure as root, then run make as a regular user. I had my doubts and after make spewed about six lines of text everything came to a halt because the 'regular' user could not create directories.
I reverted to root and make went perfectly and make install as well. I then ran the GUI install printer program and after hours of being tortured by CUPS (no ppd for my printer) I was happy. I don't have an issue with CUPS. So it goes.
The point is that the information in the pdf file I downloaded specifically to install on a Slackware box was bogus. I have no idea how to tell anyone so I posted this blog.
My machine is a dual Pentium (Intel) family 15 model 6 running at 3196.515 MHz and Slackware is 2.6.44.4 -smp and the version of HPLIP is 3.10.2. I have found that precompiled binaries often give me grief so I invariably download a tarball and configure for my specific machine, for me that is the beauty of Linux. I use GCC 4.4.4
I am not a big fan of GUI and find I can work faster and more effectively on the command line and today; vindication came my way.
So if you do use this HPLIP on a Slackware box be cautious concerning the instructions.
As a matter of fact the most noticeable part of this Linux Questions is the obvious unwillingness of some new participants to RTFM "That is to say Read The Fine Manual."
Comment if you wish. I am an old fart and my experience with computing started by using an old teletype machine, paper roll and all to communicate the handful of commands the computer could accept.
I was an electrician in the first computerized sawmill in BC. In the Prince George region. They went from 360 souls on three shifts down to 36 on two shifts and multiplied the production tremendously. I am certain though that many of those former green-chain workers were not happy to lose their jobs.
Well I have got that off my chest I think I will go and have a little nap now.

Damn I made an error. The Slackware version is 2.6.33.4-smp. My fat fingers often hit two keys. I apologize in advance.
