Remote access to Linux desktop from Windows

I have a mint machine I dont have interenet access on.
How would I get this all setup from a usb drive created on my internet connected windows 7 machine?

I'm new at all this so I might also need some aid understanding terminal commands.

Long story short, the mint machine used to be a nice windows server, Wizzards made it all easily compatible. But I lost my O/S drive so here I am starting over with Mint 9

because this was a headless tower (no video out or keyboard/mouse), I dont have the accessories to run two machines simuntniously, so I need a remote desktop connection. Every time I need an answer to this, I have to unplug everything, plug everythng back into windows and reboot to get the answer on the internet, then reverse all cables and try the mint machine again. I"M GOING NUTS..

    PLEASE HELP..
