Deluge 1.3.1 won't load on Ubuntu natty 11.04 without error

Posted 05-11-2011 at 04:41 AM by carl0ski

After upgrading ubuntu Maverick and Lucid on my computers to Natty i found i could not load deluge at all
I also found the following symptoms.
  • All plugins missing from deluge , including
    all default plug ins
    scheduler, label autoadd, blocklist
  • deluge-gtk , deluge would quit without error

using a fresh Natty installation deluge would work.

the solution I listed all python package on the upgraded and fresh system to find
libboost-python1.40.0 libboost-python1.42.0 - both on the non working system
libboost-python1.42.0 - just one on the working system

the following fixed my deluge up removing the offending package libboost-python1.40.0 and deluge
Code:
sudo apt-get remove libboost-python1.40.0 deluged deluge-common
the reinstalling
Code:
sudo apt-get install libboost-python1.42.0 deluged deluge-common

If that didn't work for you try going whole hog removing all packages that were present in the upgrade but not found in vanilla install
obviously large chunks of ubuntu depend on python including ubuntu-desktop so that may be removed also , but it will reinstall immediately after
Code:
sudo apt-get remove libboost-python1.40.0 python-axiom python-coherence python-configobj python-epsilon python-imdbpy python-louie python-lxml python-mechanize python-mysqldb python-nevow python-notify python-pyasn1 python-pysqlite2 python-tagpy python-twisted-conch python-bluez python-compizconfig python-farsight python-gnomeapplet python-libtorrent python-newt python-notify python-numpy python-papyon python-pygame python-telepathy deluged deluge-common
dont reboot make sure you reinstall them first because of the missing ubuntu-desktop package
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop libboost-python1.42.0 libpython2.6 libpython2.7 python python-appindicator python-apport python-apt python-apt-common python-aptdaemon python-aptdaemon-gtk python-aptdaemon.gtk3widgets python-aptdaemon.gtkwidgets python-argparse python-avahi python-bluez python-brlapi python-cairo python-central python-chardet python-compizconfig python-configglue python-couchdb python-crypto python-cups python-cupshelpers python-dbus python-debian python-defer python-desktopcouch-application python-desktopcouch-records python-egenix-mxdatetime python-egenix-mxtools python-farsight python-gconf python-gdbm python-glade2 python-gmenu python-gnome2 python-gnomeapplet python-gnomecanvas python-gnomekeyring python-gnupginterface python-gobject python-gobject-cairo python-gst0.10 python-gtk2 python-gtksourceview2 python-gtkspell python-httplib2 python-ibus python-imaging python-indicate python-keyring python-launchpad-integration python-launchpadlib python-lazr.restfulclient python-lazr.uri python-libproxy python-libtorrent python-libxml2 python-louis python-mako python-markupsafe python-minimal python-newt python-notify python-numpy python-oauth python-openssl python-pam python-papyon python-pexpect python-piston-mini-client python-pkg-resources python-problem-report python-protobuf python-pyatspi python-pycurl python-pygame python-pygoocanvas python-pyinotify python-pyorbit python-rdflib python-serial python-simplejson python-smbc python-software-properties python-speechd python-support python-telepathy python-twisted-bin python-twisted-core python-twisted-names python-twisted-web python-ubuntuone python-ubuntuone-client python-ubuntuone-control-panel python-ubuntuone-storageprotocol python-uno python-virtkey python-vte python-wadllib python-webkit python-wnck python-wsgi-intercept python-xapian python-xdg python-xkit python-zope.interface python2.6 python2.6-minimal python2.7 python2.7-minimal deluged deluge-common
