sublime is a great text editor, albeit semi-freeware

Voted nano, it is what I use the most. I use vi some and for a GUI I am liking Kate a lot.

Vim is good. Easy to compile, and install, learn and edit, and use.
Plus syntax hightlighting of most scripts.

I don't see ed in that list, which is strange, because ed is The Standard Text Editor.
