So have you actually used StumpWM, or just have it installed? I've recently switched to it. Yeah, I know this is a DE thread...

I don't think Enlightenment goes under the WM category. There's more to it than just some window trimmings. :)

Yep. I brought this up last year. Jeremy's repsonse was that Enlightenment may well need to be reclassified as DE as it progresses. Rasterman, still calls it a window manager though. Granted his definition of a WM is _very_ broad.

Be that as it may, I do concur that at present the DE category is probably a better fit for Enlightenment. A minimal DE, but it's scope has certainley exceeded WM. How many WM's have their own file manager, Terminal app, media player, etc.??

Not all extensively but it's grate for some older machines (newer as well.) Common Lisp is cool too... not a

i'm not a fan of the kde desktop, but whatever the Netrunner devs have done works quite well for me.

You can change KDE's behaviour for opening icons with single or double click in systemsettings: Input Devices - Mouse.

I'll go with KDE again. The two best file managers, Dolphin and Konqueror, are integrated in.

Don't forget Krusader, which is my personal favorite.

For a full polished DE, KDE is my favorite. Great apps, customization and IMHO a bright future with KF5/Plasma5. If you are into QT especially QT5, I recommend you check out the 5 series. It's still not quite there yet (particularly the Apps branch) but I'm definitely liking what I've seen thus far.

Maybe another poll this or next year for BSD's, &c... I.e: *NIX.

I always wish BSD in the D-top poll. :(

Knightron 01-24-2015 07:46 AM

No matter what i do, i always end up coming back to KDE.

I do like XFCE with kwin though, and use it occasionally when i want a change.

Gnome > Unity > KDE

I've always been a Gnome fan, although I'm presently hooked up with Unity...and I don't like it much. Meanwhile, I guess I'll be trying the KDE full-time for some time soon.

ericjs 01-30-2015 03:16 PM

I know we all know what it means by "KDE" but shouldn't the poll try a little harder to be correct and say "KDE Plasma Workspaces"? KDE is the umbrella / community...

JKostaRibeiro 01-30-2015 03:21 PM

KDE. Just glorious! ;)

sorabsuperstar 02-01-2015 05:29 AM

Kde xfce

KDE and XFCE neck-and-neck

normanlinux 02-01-2015 09:51 AM

KDE is KDE

Perhaps there is a tendency to refer to the workspaces etc but, as the *original* Linux Desktop Enironment, Matthias Ettrich created a repacement for the clunky and expensive CDE - Common Desktop Enviroment - calling it the Kool Dektop Environment, so the way in which everybody else in this thread uses the term KDE is, in fact, correct.

For information purposes readers make like to refer to this post from 1996:
https://www.kde.org/announcements/announcement.php
That's right, KDE has over 18 years behind it, and was based on a great toolkit to start with.

Poprocks 02-02-2015 02:55 PM

I'm going to say KDE *one* last year, but I'm going to explore other options going forward. I'm just so sick of the bloody bugs! Akonadi daemon bringing CPU usage up to 100% until I kill it, Kmail spamming my IMAP server with requests until it gets locked out, baloo leaking memory, kio-mtp crashing 90% of the time I try to access files on my phone, screenblanking not auto-disabling with fullscreen browser videos... Ugh!

GNOME3 is a non-starter for me; I *hate* that kind of interface. Unity, I've never even tried. MATE is GNOME2 which I loved, but I refuse to name a fork of an *old* DE the DE "of the year".

XFCE could easily, EASILY get my vote if they would just bring Thunar up to par!

So yeah, I guess it's KDE but that doesn't mean I like it very much. Some of its applications are amazing and keep me using it, so for that reason I'll keep my vote with them for now.
