I can't believe how much DEs jamison20000e has

jamison20000e 12-21-2014 11:17 PM

On a newer machine I like the option to do anything, Thanks Linux\GNU\LQ and All*! :D

I also multiboot with lighter options for battery life and such, CLI is grate for learning... ;)

penguin2233 12-21-2014 11:19 PM

I often use Windows XP for stuff that can't run on Linux. It shows 7 because I'm at a public computer.

Cinnamon is clean and organized.

Cityscape 12-23-2014 04:06 PM

Cinnamon is honestly the best all-round DE imo! It sticks with a traditional style that most people would easily be able to use (no weird *cough* "Activities" *cough* thing or anything). It's quite stable and quick as well, and can be customized somewhat too. It is very professional looking and well put together. I honestly cannot think of any complaints I have against it, I can't say the same for any other DE. So Cinnamon gets my vote!

Also Mate is a DE worthy of mention too. It is very good and solid. I use it as my main DE on Debian 7, Cinnamon isn't in the repos but it will be in Jessie. I'll almost definitely switch to Cinnamon when Jessie becomes the Stable. And I have always liked LXDE for a lightweight DE, it really does well at being lightweight... even lighter then XFCE.

I just gave my laptop to my nephew for Xmas (wiped it with winblah7  and Mint :)) so now I'm CLI only (Debian-sid) on an IBM T20 (from a thrift store) zoom zoom... :D

For a very long time I only used GNOME, but discovering Enlightenment truly enlightened me :) Everything is customizable, and it looks awesome while still being fast. Looking back at the past I'm unable to tell how I survived using GNOME :) In my opinion it's a full-fletched DE.

Manjaro Cinnamon.

Quite the laugh at the spelling, as it tends to feel like your being grated, when your learning the great command line.;)

I've used several and I would like to be better at several, but they are mostly used for things such as internet access or things that require x.
Currently I tend to use either LXDE or Enlightenment, but I used to like Fluxbox quite a bit for older systems.

weirdwolf 12-28-2014 02:36 PM

Still using LXDE

pcninja 01-03-2015 07:49 PM

Xfce for the win.

I would never, ever, ever, ever use GNOME. it is always buggy and unstable. <pessimistic speculation>Too bad it will be forced on to us by the end of the year.</pessimistic speculation>

I agree with your sentiments. I switched from Ubuntu to Linux Mint because the Cinnamon desktop imo is currently the best desktop. I would rate Zorin's Win 7 type desktop as the second best. I liked your 85% virus line. It is so very true. It brought a smile to my face.

Im using MATE 1.8 on a MSI WindU90x netbook 1 GB RAM and 1.6 Atom CPU with debian 8 jessie and 3.18.1 kernel and it is relatively smooth for what i need. Thinking on trying MoonLightDE for a spin, i kinda like the overall vibe of it :D
