AmaroK for me, but if I just need to test a sound or play one song, I use Sox's play from the cli.

munkii 01-02-2007 11:53 AM

can't beat Amarok!

alred 01-02-2007 12:19 PM

since there is xmms but where are gxine and gmplayer ??

//just curious ...

//btw ... i find it interesting that gstreamer appears in both video and audio balloting ...

raskin 01-02-2007 12:23 PM

Read all the thread.. gmplayer is not here since it names itself as movie player.

alred 01-02-2007 12:28 PM

hmm ... guess that those guys are just being humble ...

so ... i'm narrowed down to xmms and gstreamer ...

AmaroK is my choice. Firstly it looked kinda clumsy to me. I've always used Winamp, and amaroK didn't impress me at the begining. But now I like this player much.

betamaxman 01-02-2007 12:45 PM

Amarok manages my 45 gbs of music just fine.

I guess Beep Media Player means BMPx... if not, BMPx should be in it's place, because it is the best media player I've used. Sure it has it's drawbacks, mainly the huge GUI and the fact that it is kinda in "alpha" stage. But it's Musicbrainz and LastFM integration compensates it all.

Samoth 01-02-2007 03:51 PM

Amarok all the way!

Does my music fine. Gotta love all those cool features.

frob23 01-02-2007 05:55 PM

Yay, cmus made it in. You have to love a terminal based music player which does everything the big-boys do as well. It's like a text mode version of iTunes or something. And it uses vi-style commands.

I can start it up in a screen session, and even if I kill X, my music never stops playing. I can ssh into the computer from another computer across the house and change the song, volume, whatever.

It's a wonderful thing.

Exaile!

I like Exaile, it's a new one, pyGTK "clone" of AmaroK. But seeing as that's not on the list, I'll vote for good old XMMS.

vangelis 01-03-2007 05:30 AM

nothing on the known world of software can beat amarok on this category ;)

librano 01-03-2007 01:57 PM

Please add Listen Media Player. Its like Amarok for Gnome.

Audacious is a pretty killer app.

Play AND record music.

XMMS is better for just playing, though.

timothyb89 01-03-2007 08:39 PM

where's VLC?
:)
