A new category this year.

Funny, but I use command-line mplayer and feed it with list of arguments. Maybe it could be added in this poll also?

jeremy 12-30-2006 04:09 PM

mplayer classifies themselves as a "movie player". While it does play audio, we'll keep it solely in the video category.

I've really become a fan of amaroK lately. I'll have to give it my vote because I did use it a lot in 2006 and enjoy it. XMMS is a tough omission for me because I do use it a lot but really only for a quick sound here or there.

mpg123 is a nice toy... :)

OK, now that I have no chance to vote for mplayer, I propose TiMidity - software renderer for MIDI.

technomeister 12-31-2006 09:03 AM

no Audacious?

osor 12-31-2006 10:40 AM

I think we should distinguish between xmms and xmms2 (the former of which is almost ubiquitous but now unmaintained, the latter of which is in “alpha” — they’re definitely run by two different types of users).

ditto ......

Audacious added. XMMS2 would seem to me to simply be the next generation or version of XMMS.

And TiMidity++?

jeremy 12-31-2006 12:02 PM

Doesn't look like there has been a release of TiMidity++ since 2004.

Simply it is perfect as console MIDI player/converter...
