toughbook creativity project

Received the toughbook CF-71 in the mail yesterday. Ready to start looking at an OS and desktop setup (prolly GUI for this machine, sorry CLI-lovers). Want to try several things "for the heck of it":
* Running computational ware like LUDEP or Latin HyperCube;
* Eventually want a dual-boot option for computation/admin work;
* Graphics capability: is an older machine and may need upgrades;
* An entirely LINUX-based environment (of course!)
Looking at a few options including a Slackware/dropline combo, or just RH 7.3 with KDE 3.0 (prolly quick/easy & more logical). First major challenge of course is getting the machine up & running. Booted & hardware looks great, sounds great, customized hardware setup and running research on OS customization. May need to crack the case to see what I’m using (purchased from city for $150).
After that's taken care of will be interesting to see if can get LUDEP to run as it's designed to run on DOS boxes. May be fooling self, but remembering/being inspired by the time my Dad ran multiple Windoze vers (95 & 2K I think) by naming one "Windows" and the other "Doors" in partitioning. *lol*! Maybe it can be done w/o using DOS; maybe not.... we'll see. It’d be cool to bypass MS all together on this machine. First I've got to get this thing up and usable.
