Ubuntu / Ubuntu + KDE / Kubuntu | Which do you use?
Ok, I'd like to see what people use to get an idea of percentages, please could you vote for your prefered setup, and possibly say why.
Cheers, Buck |
I'm used to gnome. I like gnome. I like ubuntu.
|
I like KDE, and since I never use GNOME, Kubuntu is fine.
|
I like them both, now. I was never a real big fan of Gnome, except way back when kde was in ugly 1.x stage (gotta start somewhere I suppose) and when I installed Ubuntu. Now I use gnome almost exclusively, and switch over to KDE every now and again.

BuckRogers01 - don't make a reply which just says /bump. You have answers coming in so the post obviously doesn't need to be bumped. Aslo, your thread doesn't give your preferred option.

I like KDE + Ubuntu, give meall the tools I need
|
I dnt have a preferred option, I'm torn between which one to use, that's why I posted the poll in the first place, to see what people generally use. I will go with the majority
|
i used to have ubuntu + kde, then i tried a few other distro's, came back and this time decided to install kubuntu. i still have it, better than using ubuntu + kde imo.

I use Ubuntu, plain and simple. I dislike KDE, so would never touch Kubuntu or even try Ubuntu with KDE. I much prefer Gnome.
There's no real difference between the two (Ubuntu and Kubuntu) apart from the window manager used, and IMO it's a bit pointless having Ubuntu with Gnome and then Kubuntu with KDE; why not just have Ubuntu and offer both KDE and Gnome, like they do with Fedora and SuSE and Mandrake? Also, IMO you should use the window manager which you prefer, not the one that is mostly used. It's all about personal choice - If you prefer KDE, then use Kubuntu, but if you prefer Gnome then use Ubuntu. You may also be interested in trying out ones such as XFCE - Another very good window manager, although lighter than Gnome. |
I've got Ubuntu with KDE installed as well, but I prefer neither one.
Ahh, Window Maker. Gotta love ya. |
e17 - better than both. by far.
|
Ubuntu. I really like the Gnome interface :)
|
what do u like more about the gnome interface than kde?
|
It just seems more efficient and more organized to me than KDE. For example, all of the desktop configuration settings are all in one place, and the overall feel seems more unified to me. Plus, I've noticed it runs a lot faster on my Linux box than KDE-based distros. Still, I use KDE when I run SuSE, just because I like Novell's implemenation of KDE a lot (I'm actually not that crazy about SuSE's take on Gnome).
