what the hell is that now ? 10.1 incompatible with itself ?
When I start the system update app in suse 10.1 I get the following message :
"The installed product is not compatible with the product on the installation media. If you Try to update using the current installation media, the system my not start of some application may not run properly" The only sources configured are the CDs I used for the upgrade and SUSE online update source. What gives ? Starting to hate this release. |

To avoid troubles, I advise clean install of new version.

I also get the same error, and I did a clean install. Oh well.

Anyway, the package management part of Yast in 10.1 is broken as far as I am concerned. And something that I can't stand in a distro is bad package management. I used to not understand the critics of Yast but if it was like that in the past, no wonder they hated it. Makes me think of the Mandrake control center of old. Plenty of icons, nothing that works. |
What I ment is when you are upgrading a new version of OS, let us say - from SUSE 10.0 to 10.1 is always better to do clean install.

Updates/upgrades of the packages are always done automatically - in SUSE - by YAST. You do not need to configure anything yourself.

Also, I agree with the OP about package management in Suse 10.1. It's terrible. The 'rug' updater takes about 10 minutes to even start, and 'you' uses ~60% of my memory to run. It's too bad too, since in every other way 10.1 is a great release. I disabled zmd and am using the 'smart' package manager now, and it's much, much better. |
andres,
you are right about YAST. That was what I ment. About 10.1 updater, yes it is terrible. I am also using smart and yum too. I wanted to install apt but i got this error syntax message in line 212 which I do not understand ans so I can not correct. |
Smart Package Manager
