openSuSE12.2 bugs?

I would like to know if anyone has come across these problems on new install of openSuSE12.2. I tried installing many times with same results and 2 days ago did the same on an entire different computer but the same problems popped up. I therefore think this must be a bug. I have posted with my problems in different areas of this forum, but i will summarise the problems below so that the experts in this forum can ascertain whether it is a bug issue or not.

1. Install DVD iso checksum ok, check media prior to installation ok
2. After 1st boot updates, Firefox was updated to 16.01. When starting Firefox, the icon bounced for a while, it looked like it tried to start, but it quickly disappeared to be replaced with a Crash Report that in turn crashed after clicking report.
Every time this happens, the following happened.
3. KNotify reported a crash as well
4. MyComputer does not display any Disk Information
5. USB sticks, CD or DVD are not detected.
6. Reply by John VV to my post re one of the problems encountered http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...in-4175435019/, there is a bug

I have been an openSuSE user since version 9 and have never ever come across any problems until the doomed day that I made the mistake of going from 11.4 to 12.2.

The experience was so bad that I am now combing thru this forum to ascertain which is the best & user-friendly alternative to SuSE.

Any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Add 2) No reason to update everything.
Please only update important security updates.
# zypper in MozillaFirefox :
Today the stable version "16.0.2-2.21" is installed as an update.

Add 4) Haven't seen a "MyComputer" like application since 11.x.
And I have not missed it.
? All disk "info" is in the left column of Dolphin.

Add 5) USB sticks, data DVD, "movie DVD", music CD : All detected OK here. (KDE 4.)

Thanks for reply.
It is almost impossible for me to identfy which updates are important & essential because the usually incomprehensible list of names make no sense to me at all.

Following installation tips from opensuse.org, it recommended that all updates after first boot should be installed (no questions asked) before going on with the multimedia restricted formats.

I must admit I didn't check Dolphin to see if the usb, cd/dvd's were displayed. However, when I placed a CD or DVD in to copy files, k3b said no optical drive detected. Same thing with USB, although I manually mount the flash drive, I cannot write files to it.

It is so strange. Because the problems arose so early in the installation stage, I cleaned the disk and installed again. Did this more than 3 times, each time with a virgin clean disk to make sure none of the debris were left behind. Did the same thing on my sister's computer, and the same problems happened.

I am now testing the LinuxMint 13 and will most probably migrate. IMHO, SuSE was really good up to distro 11.4. With Micro$oft sticking their beaks into SuSE, its a matter of time before I ditch it anyway. If I can't use removable disks to copy/backup data, the machine is absolutely useless.
