New ATI drivers (8.12.10)

I noticed that ATI has released a new set of drivers, dated 7. April. I've been waiting for them but I'm not sure if I should install them yet. They probably need a separate kernel module package like the previous versions, don't they? Also since ATI doesn't provide any installation instructions I'm afraid I'll mess something up badly in case something in the installation is different in this version.

If you look at the release notes or the section where you can actual download the driver they state that "kernel headers are no longer required with this release". As for the HOWTO, there's one here in the LQ Tutorials section. > http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/answers.php

And as a note, always have a backup of all your important data before embarking upon updating, upgrading or installing new software/hardware to your system.
