Not in france :)

Anyway, I agree, it should be possible to send checks, although there might be an "overhead" depending on the currency, so it's worth it only for big amount. Also simply a public SWIFT / IBAN code so we could "simply" wire money from bank to bank. It shouldn't be unsafe as it's how we do in 'b2b' transactions...

Impressing information you got ! :) Just to remind you that we react to Alien Bob's remark about lack of funding... Alien Bob is not an alien...

Say, what's really going on with the website?

It shouldn't take over five minutes to put a network card in another machine, IP it with the same IP, and put a static message on the website.

Or perhaps the Slack server is down south in Antarctica and it could take weeks to get someone down there to switch the hardware out. You can never be paranoid enough with 'physical security'.

Maybe a new release is on the horizon! Probably not though, as we would have heard more, I think. Anyway, a Slack'o'thon could be very cool. Maybe Patrick could get new hardware, or switch to a professional hosting company.

It's down at noon eastern time.

I just got a thorough upgrade of kde to 4.8 from my slackpkg (I use osuosl.org for that sort of thing) so I decided to check the status of stable and whether it has been upgraded too. And I found this thread. There are a lot of packages being uploaded over the last couple of days (I'm really glad that I use xfce as my default desktop -- typing "xinit" then "startkde" led to a really bad experience). I imagine it will be down for a few days.

Just purchased another black t-shirt at the store. I do need another one. :) Let us support the cause.

EdGr 04-15-2012 12:54 PM

I will gladly buy a Slackware 14.1421356237 DVD, or whatever the next version turns out to be. :)

Same here, count me in. And by the way, no matter if it was a tru hardware failure, we should give away a couple of bucks, no harm in it.

Plus it might be an occasion to explain the purpose of the funds (buying new server, be sure Pat and co can live for some years... After all we are all Slackers for something, we want Slackware to be in good health.

No question about it. No one is ever going to be willing to see Slackware in trouble, but if there's a specific goal in sight a lot more of us will start rattling our bank accounts in the hope we can contribute.

Fish_Kungfu 04-15-2012 10:59 PM

I just donated at the Slackware store: http://store.slackware.com/cgi-bin/store
I'm still up for a Slack-O-thon Money Bomb campaign though.

Long Live Slackware!! :-)

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with regards to PayPal. I just donated and didn't use PayPal at all:

http://store.slackware.com/cgi-bin/store/slackdonation

P.S. I would still be happy to donate a little more to the specific cause of getting Slackware.com back online.

Manuel-H 04-16-2012 03:04 AM

It's sad to see www.slackware.com is currently down.

I have been an avid user of Slackware since it was in floppy media.

I am also a Slackware supporter via the subscription model.
Whenever there is a new Slackware version, I will be automatically getting a copy after deducting the amount from my Credit Card.

I hope more Slackers will join in the subscription bandwagon as well.
(Note: I am in no way affiliated with Slackware nor am I their staff)

Just to share my thoughts and my tiny contribution.

Thanks and long live Slackware.

I would like to donate more too, but from here it is simply too expensive. Although I am swiss, I don't like feeding the banks :D . Last time I ordered from the store, the costs nearly doubled for fees and shipping and things. From what I experienced, also this IBAN/Swift thing mostly doesn't work properly outside europe. And I don't have a credit card / paypal account (and won't get both).

Doesn't your bank allow you to define a "virtual credit card"? I don't like using credit cards either, and I use virtual credit cards when I order something from the internet.
